Creative strategies | September, 2007

I hope you enjoy this September 2007 issue of the SPS e-newsletter. We know from your feedback that you like the e-newsletter, but we hope to improve it further in the coming months.

Can I also suggest that this month as well as reading the e-newsletter you look at using a different search engine? I've been introduced to a website that raises money for charity every time you search the web: Everyclick. When you first log on you can choose the charity that receives your funds. You'll not be surprised to know I selected the SPS. Even if you don't want to follow my lead, do consider using the service and raising money for your favourite charity.

Creative strategies for innovative business Publications update in 'Research and insight' section
Over the past few years, companies such as Ryanair, Starbucks and Amazon have become successful by changing the rules of the game.

In the latest issue of Strategy Magazine Anja Foerster and Peter Kreuz argue that to come up with bold innovations you must question long-held industry conventions, rethink product and service concepts, and redraw market boundaries. You must then combine the new with the familiar in order to create pioneering innovations hitherto unseen in the industry.

Unlocking the value of an overseas acquisition
Cross-border acquisitions are more troublesome than purely domestic ones – so much so that some companies dismiss the idea of cross-border acquisitions altogether. Yet often an overseas acquisition is the only route to realise a global strategy.

Properly implemented, it need hold no fears – and can unlock enormous opportunities and rewards. In the latest issue of Strategy Magazine Donald Sin Fai Lam argues that by paying careful attention to three key areas, cross-border acquisitions can become more of a known quantity – and less a leap into the dark.
